Sports Hypnosis is the application of psychology, visualisation and other mental techniques in order to improve performance in a sport specific manner. Although Hypnotists often use a ‘sleep’ like state during therapy this is not always required. ‘Altered levels’ of consciousness can be seen through guided imagery and even ‘Active Alert Hypnosis’ which rather than instigating a relaxed state creates an alert state (as the name would suggest) for performance enhancement.

Techniques such as ‘active alert hypnosis’ are constantly being developed and sports hypnotists are documenting the results to enhance research into many sports disciplines.
